I made it through the wilderness

I was compared to Tarzan’s Jane more than once while in the Amazon Rainforest last weekend, if that gives you any idea of how in my element I was.

Most of my childhood was spent on Perdido Bay, catching fish that I’d eat for lunch and spending so much time in the sand that I was not allowed in the house before extensively hosing off.

It’s a side of me not many people know or understand, but it’s a huge part of who I am. Sure, I love mani-pedis and long, hot showers just as much as the next girl.

But I’m also a fan of spending an entire day outside, covered in sweat and bug spray while exploring God’s beautiful creation.

And that’s what we did on our trip to Puerto Maldonado.

We went swimming in the Amazon River and took a trip to the Island of the Monkeys. We spotted cayman from boats in the river and went zip lining through the jungle. We went on a night hike to see tarantulas and watched the sun set over the water.

You can watch the Youtube video below to take a closer look at my adventures in the Amazon.

It was an unforgettable experience, and the whole time, all I could think of was Psalm 91:

“Because he holds fast to me

in love, I will deliver him;

I will protect him, because he

knows my name.

When he calls to me, I will

answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will rescue him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him

and show him my salvation.”

Psalm 91:14-16

I’ll be heading back to the States in a few days, but whether I’m in Chicago or Cusco, God is always by my side.

It’s impossible not to see Him in the beautiful scenery of Peru. Leaving will be bittersweet, but I find comfort in knowing that I always have a friend in Jesus, that He will satisfy me fully and show me salvation, no matter where I am.
